So after my own coaching sessions this evening I decided to head over to Cary to check out this intriguing preseason friendly. Both teams are coached by guys I respect and also are former Pompey players. Excellent.
In the first half Duke looked pretty good. They can keep the ball low and pass firmly to feet. I disagree with 3four3 about Ibeagha, who looked solid technically. He could talk more though, in fact most of the team were pretty quiet.
The second half was a lot scrappier that the first. The ref was poor and made some really bad calls. At one point he told a Duke player to “take a sub” and there was a minute or so of the players telling him to just issue the yellow card and get the game going again.
The standout player was the number 25 for the Railhawks. I have no idea who he is, as he is not listed in the roster. He played right back and pretty much shut down the entire Duke attack in the second Very impressive performance.
At half time some chap from the Railhawks administration mentioned that a few folks from the MLS were coming down for a day of schmoozing.. I plan on going along to see what is going down. I’ll keep you posted.
